The Jamarat

 The Jamarat represent the three locations where Ebrahim (عليه السلام) pelted the Shaytan with stones when he tried to dissuade him from sacrificing his son. The pillars are called ‘Jamrat-al-Ula’, ‘Jamrat-al-Wusta’ and ‘Jamrat-al-Qubra’.

One of the big differences in beliefs regarding the Prophets between Muslims and the Christians and Jews is who was the son to be sacrificed. Alth...ough the Quran doesn’t specify the name, the vast majority of Muslim scholars identify him as Ismail ‎(عليه السلام) with the incident happening here in Mina.

The Jews and Christians however, believe the son to be Ishaq ‎(عليه السلام) with the incident taking place on the rock housed inside the Dome of the Rock in Masjid al-Aqsa, Jerusalem.

It is clear however, by looking at Biblical scriptural evidence that the sacrificial son could only have been Ismail (عليه السلام). For example, in Genesis 22:2 Abraham is commanded to take his only son for sacrifice. As Ismail (عليه السلام) was 13 years older than Ishaq (عليه السلام) and both were alive at the time of their father’s death, logically Ishaq (عليه السلام) could never have been his only son.
